Foot Loose And Fancy Free

We made it through 30 days of wearing casts on both legs. It was a challenging 4 weeks and 2 days; however, God remained faithful in His grace and continued to teach me patience.

Mark and I were very proud of little Hannah and the way she was handling the new normal. She was always more than eager to help her big sister. When Sarah said, "I need to go potty." Hannah was literally running to the bathroom to lift the potty seat for her, then would meet her in the hallway trying to pull her pants down. She "assisted" with pulling toilet paper off the roll, lowering the potty seat, flushing, and pulling Sissy's pants back up. Hannah has definitely been learning what it is like to serve others more than yourself. Oh, she even tries to help Sarah push her chair up to the table. It is adorable watching this sisterly love begin to develop an everlasting bond.
February 2 was the big day for Sarah! Mark and I took her to Dr. Michael Schmitz (the surgeon) for a post surgery appointment and removal of the casts. We had her new running shoes in hand with socks ready for her to jump down and start walking. Wow! We were very naive in thinking that she was going to walk out of there. Bless her heart! She was so afraid of the "saw" that was used to cut her casts off and did not want anyone to touch her legs. So, we picked her up and carried her out with smiles of joy for our little girl has been so brave through all of this.

Papa had given Sarah a large of bag of change before she had her surgery, and we had promised Sarah she could pick out a prize the day her casts come off. We stopped by Toys R' Us on the way home in 40 degree temperatures with our barefoot little girl.
I am sure we got a few stares as we walked through the aisles with our barefoot 4 year old on our hips in frigid temperatures outside. I wanted to put a sign on us that said, "Yes, our child is barefoot! Thank you for noticing!" This was not the last time we went barefoot in a store. Oh let's see - there was Publix and Target as well. It took a couple of days before she felt like socks were not restricting anymore.
Sisters sharing a special reading time. Sarah is really starting to enjoy being her little teacher.
Chick-fil-A had a special Daddy/Daughter Date Night by reservation only. Mark and Sarah went out last Saturday night for their special night. I tried to get him to take Hannah along, but she is a bit too little, I guess.
Daddy and Sarah just before they left on their date! Sarah was ecstatic about having Daddy all to herself! He was loving it too, of course!
Sarah returned to her preschool on Monday morning. She was thrilled to be going back to school without casts and walking. She is walking with assistance, but nonetheless, she is walking!
Hannah and I arrived to pick up Sarah a little early, so I put her in my lap to "drive" a little. She was looking real stylish in my shades!
She was having the best time and loved it even more when she realized she could look at herself in the side mirror and visor mirror. I was so happy to have Sarah back in my arms after her "first" day back to school. She has been such a brave little girl through this whole ordeal. Her teachers said she did wonderful and the other kids are being very helpful. Two of Sarah's friends at her table have been pulling her chair out for her and pushing it in for her. It makes my heart happy to hear that the other kids are being caring and sensitive to her. We know that the Lord is control of Sarah's healing and it will happen in due time.
